Planning perspective
What to consider before reaching out
A strong first conversation is about fit, not just availability. Share your date, approximate guest count, location, and the feeling you want the day to have. Ask what is included, what typically changes the final quote, and what decisions need to be made earliest.
For a venue partner, confirm how communication works, who will be present on the day, and how the team handles changes. Pricing was not included in the supplied research, so request a current, itemized proposal directly from the business.

We did not have a wedding, but when multiple members of our extended family descended on the area, Affair by the Lake made for a comfortable, scenic place to spend our time. Between watching sunsets, visiting forts museums and historic spots nearby, walking across the street for Creemees (the local take on soft serve), and easy access to Middlebury, this proved to be a wonderful place to relax and reconnect with relatives from multiple time zones.

We couldn't have asked for a better venue for our wedding! Lorraine listened to our vision and worked with us every step of the way to bring it to life. She was incredibly accommodating, going above and beyond to ensure every detail was taken care of. The venue itself was stunning and provided the perfect backdrop for our big day. Lorraine and Cheri coordinated all day of details, which made for an extremely smooth and relaxing wedding day. It was worth every penny, and we highly recommend An Affair by the Lake for anyone looking for a beautiful wedding experience!

An Affair by the Lake is a total hidden gem! Despite growing up in nearby Middlebury and having many local ties, I never realized this stunning venue existed until starting the wedding planning process. Wow, I'm so glad I found it! Lorraine put my husband and I at ease from the start with her organization, warmth, responsive communication, deep knowledge of the wedding industry and local vendors, and many helpful tips to prepare us for the wedding itself. When we had questions, she had answers -- or quickly got them, when needed! As the liaison between us and our chosen vendors, Lorraine took many communications off our plate, which was so appreciated. She kept us informed without overwhelmi...

My husband and I were married at An Affair By The Lake this year and cannot say enough positive things about Lorraine and Cheri. We were supposed to have our wedding in 2020 but with COVID, we decided to delay with hopes of less restrictions and a bigger, more fun reception and that is exactly what we got. Lorraine was always available to call, text, or email and stayed up to date on rules and regulations which helped us with decision making. She was incredibly kind and understanding with everything but especially with rescheduling our ceremony and reception. She helped to coordinate and reschedule ALL of our vendors for the new 2021 date and helped bring our plans for our dream day to life....
